Comparing Service-Oriented and Distributed Object Architectures

چکیده
Service-Oriented Architectures have been proposed as a replacement for the more established Distributed Object Architectures as a way of developing loosely-coupled distributed systems. While superficially similar, we argue that the two approaches exhibit a number of subtle differences that, taken together, lead to significant differences in terms of their large-scale software engineering properties such as the granularity of service, ease of composition and differentiation – properties that have a significant impact on the design and evolution of enterprise-scale systems. We further argue that some features of distributed objects are actually crucial to the integration tasks targeted by service-oriented ar-

A Reference Architecture for Automation of Inter-Organizational Process-Oriented Collaboration
In today’s competitive, dynamic, and changing business environment, being able to collaborate globally within and beyond the enterprise borders is critical. Inter-Organizational Collaborations (IOCs) have been proposed as a response to the characteristics of highly competitive global business environments. So far, a number of reference models, frameworks, and ad hoc architectures related to som...
متن کاملImproving Dependability of Service Oriented Architectures for Pervasive Computing
Service Oriented Programming which combines Distributed Object Compunting, Component Based and webbased concepts has recently emerged as a promising approach to develop dynamic and heterogeneous service provision environments. Such systems are referenced in literature as Service Oriented Architectures. Classic strategies to address dependability in Distributed Object Computing middlewares may n...
متن کاملLoad Balancing Algorithms in Distributed Service Architectures for Medical Applications
This paper investigates the performance of two proposed load balancing algorithms for Object-Oriented Distributed Service Architectures (DSA) that are open and flexible, enabling rapid and easy development of new applications on various kinds of software and hardware platforms, catering for telecommunications and distributed medical applications. The proposed algorithms, namely, Node Status Alg...
متن کاملWhat does Service-oriented Computing really mean?
If you take a closer look at current service-oriented architectures and their standards like Web-ser vices and compare them to other distributed computing approaches, then you will come to the fol lowing conclusion: Technically SOC does not provide any new possibilities or solutions which were not already available or implementable with the old approaches. It would be for example not a proble...
متن کاملPlug-and-Produce Technologies Real-time Aspects - Service Oriented Architectures for SME Robots and Plug-and-Produce
Plug-and-Produce (with the meaning that devices can be plugged in without any manual configurations needed) is an attractive paradigm for manufacturing systems, and in particular for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that do not have the expertise of system integrators but do need to be able to reconfigure their systems by themselves. One approach for loosely (in terms of timing) coupled devi...
